First Person on Scene (FPOS) – Basic

The Level 2 Award in First Person On Scene (FPOS) course is designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence to help a person in a life threatening situation.

The topics covered include:

  • The pre-hospital environment (including minimising the risk of infection)
  • Patient assessment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • Airway management
  • Shock and circulation
  • Paramedic assist

With years of experience dealing with real life emergencies, our expert trainers draw on their own personal pre-hospital care experiences to make learning fun and memorable. This ensures that learners leave with the confidence and vital life saving skills needed to deal with the wide range of emergency situations.

Assessment and Certification

The course consists of 3 hours pre self-directed study; 30 hours contact time and 2 hours assessment. Learners are required to complete both a multi-choice assessment and practical assessments. Successful candidates will receive a First Person on Scene (FPOS) certificate, which is valid for a period of 3 years.

Entry requirements

All learners must be at least 17 years old and possess reasonable numeracy and literacy skills. Having existing basic first aid knowledge is also recommended (e.g. previous attendance on a First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work or Paediatric First aid course).

Refresher Training

In line with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance. it is strongly recommended that first responders undertake annual refresher training that includes Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation.
